“The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
This past weekend I witnessed an emotion we all feel at some time or another. Out of the corner of my eye as I was approaching the soccer field, I noticed a young eager girl who was being coached and trained as a Referee. The experienced Ref was offering her some good tips before entering onto the soccer field. She seemed ready and confident.
I set up my chair on the sideline excited to watch my daughter play. Both teams seemed to be a great match. The newbie Referee was on my sideline running up and down the field making calls and throwing up her bright yellow flag. As she rose her flag, parents from the other team screamed sheer words of disapproval at the young Ref’s call. The look on her face spelled… F.A.I.L.U.R.E.
The screaming match didn’t subside, and now this poor new Referee was humiliated in front of a large audience. She couldn’t hold it together and the wet tears started pouring down her face. An older gentleman, looking official, came to her rescue and from behind helped her assess the rest of the game. He tenderly went ahead of her and did not fail her. A beautiful picture of God’s tender love and concern for us.
