“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”

1 Peter 5:10

How do you react when disappointment strikes again?

It’s not easy to persevere when disappointment seems to creep up again and again. Common questions rage through our mind, “Why me”, “When will I get a break”, “Why does it feel like God is against me.”

It’s difficult to see a loved one, especially our children, fight through these emotions.  My daughter has worked her entire life to play soccer in college.  This was her dream and she was a month away from seeing it become a reality earning a soccer scholarship to the Univ of Utah.  She worked diligently to recover from a knee injury and surgery entering into her senior year of high school.  Her determination to rehab and fully recover to play her freshman year in college was her ultimate goal.

She was so close to the finish line!  Just recently during one of her last games of the season, she was kneed from behind and fell to the ground with excruciating pain.  An athlete knows her body too well and immediately she knew it was serious.  A doctor visit later, we are scheduling surgery once again.  The cries of disappointment shattered through my daughter’s heart, soul, and mind. No words of encouragement could console her during this moment of loss.  Her dream is delayed, but not destroyed!

Enduring multiple moments of disappointment can make us lose hope.  However, we are stronger than we can imagine.  God is bigger than we can imagine.  He may be using our disappointments to strengthen or restore an area in our life.  He is not out to destroy us, He is out to refine us.

Disappointment can either Destroy us or move us closer to our Destiny.

I am confident my daughter will see the bigger purpose behind her disappointment and this delay will move her more into her brighter destiny.

How has a disappointment strengthened you?  How did it reshape your destiny?
